Occupy Flash Urges Overhaul of Sluggish Plug-in
They already recycle mobile phones, only flush once and never shirk waste recycling duty. But the Occupy generation are not just out to make the world a more ethically minded place when they sell nokia phone to ethical recycling companies and campaign as the 99%. Their aim is to boost practicality in daily life by closing the gap between irate consumer and faceless corporation.
Ir is not hard to see why Flash users are sick to the teeth of the Adobe plug-in. Prone to crashes, security breaches and bugs, numerous revisions have done little to improve both desktop and mobile use in the eyes of Occupy Flash groups.
Another huge problem for Flash development is that many experienced Flash programmers feel the format is outdated and unworkable in the modern touchscreen environment. The simple issue of cursor movement over Flash cannot be solved easily in terms of existing Flash working on touchscreens. Most Flash menus, videos etc rely on coding that is defined by the difference between the cursor hovering or actually clicking. It is possible to implement tailored Flash for touchscreens, but groups like Occupy Flash complain the outdated format means existing Flash has no chance of working on a tablet or smartphone.
Does the future lie in HTML 5? Apple has long been Flash-phobic, forcing users to download games etc from the Apple store rather than simply access them online. According to an April 2010 open letter by former Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, Flash has no place in the future. All Apple tech products are HTML 5 compliant.
